Repair Timeline
Drum repairs typically take 2 to 4 weeks to complete. However, during periods of high demand or the holiday season (particularly late December), wait times may be longer.
Why does it take so long to repair a drum?
Each drum repair is a detailed, hands-on process that requires both time and precision. Here's a breakdown of the typical steps involved:
Unroping: 1–3 hours
Soaking & Fitting the Head: 1–1.5 hours
Re-roping: 1–2 hours
Initial Tuning: 1–4 hours
Head Drying: 2–5 days
Additional Tuning: 1–3 hours
Head Trimming & Sanding: 1–2 hours
If rope replacement is needed, please allow an additional 3–6 hours for this part of the process.
Tuning
There are two main ways to raise the pitch of your djembe if it needs tuning.
1. Diamond Tune/Mali Weave: This is the quick and easy way to tune a drum. Follow our tutorial here.
2. Bar Tuning: If your drum is significantly out of tune or you’re unable to add more tuning diamonds, we offer bar tuning services.
What is Bar Tuning? This method uses a custom-built tuning bar to apply high tension to the drum’s ropes, restoring proper pitch and tone. The process typically takes between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the drum’s size and how much tightening is needed. Costs can range between 30-60$ before tax; contact us for more information.
