Feedback & Testimonials

"As an elementary music teacher in the Lower Mainland, I have participated in many percussion workshops over the years.† I must say that Miltonís sessions at Groove Masters have been the most fun! His approach of using phrases to teach the rhythms makes them easier to learn.† There is always a wide range of experience among the participants (from children to teens to experienced musicians to an 80 year old man drumming for the first time) yet it seems that everyone feels successful because Milton tailors the material to every level. His personal stories and brief history lessons promotes deeper understanding of the music. Miltonís sense of humour, patience and experience, as well as his ability on a traditional drum kit makes his workshops worthwhile. I particularly enjoy the sessions where we learn the traditional rhythms and use them for modern day songs - when I teach my students they can see the cross-over and inter-connectedness of African based music. Another bonus is when we have the opportunity to have other musicians join us (keyboards, bass, vocalist). Be prepared to sing and move, too, but you donít have to - play at your own comfort level and feel better leaving then when you came into the workshop."

"Whether you are 8 or 88 years old Milton's workshops will knock your socks off.† Novice or experienced you will learn, play in a ensemble, and above all have lots of fun doing it.† Milton and Mayumi's knowledge and passion for the music is infectious.† And, thanks to Mayumi, you will also be fed a delicious home-made lunch. I am really looking forward to the next Samba Reggae workshop."

"I recently attended Milton's 'Samba Reggae Workshop' and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I'm an experienced hand drummer of many years and was amazed at his ability to teach complex rhythms to absolute novices (who ranged between the ages of 6 to 88 years old) while still challenging the more experienced drummers. Great energy!"

"Miltonís programme was the catalyst that inspired me to create a drumming programme at Woodbank Primary. We were interested in bilateral brain development, and the programme offered hands-on musical experiences for our young learners. Without Miltonís enthusiasm for experiential learning, students would not have had an instrument each. I cannot represent the joy that the children felt after their day with Milton."

"I have the job of booking entertainment for the year. As a teacher I am compelled to seek out and choose performances that are both high quality entertainment and educational. Mr. Randallís drumming workshops are certainly both of these and then some. What is special about this opportunity is that each and every student is involved in the entertainment- in one day they get to learn how to play their own drum and then perform to an audience. Miltonís skill on the drums is outstanding and, through his exceptional way of teaching and incorporating the studentsí drumming with his the gymnasium vibrates with an exciting energy. Other teachers and the students themselves used words like: amazing, fantastic, fun, exciting and wonderful to describe their thoughts on this day. Milton has such a positive energy and a very simple, effective way of holding all the studentsí attention there has not been any need for controlling poor behaviour. I have booked the Drum Workshop three times and each one has been successful."

"As a teacher and Administrator for the past eighteen years, I have watched many artistic presentations. Mr. Randall is, in my view, the finest performer and clinician I have ever worked with in a school context. Fabulous musicianship coupled with infectious energy creates a learning environment in which students are inspired and thoroughly engaged. By connecting musical concepts with everyday language or phrases, syncopated rhythms become manageable and easily executed by young musicians. In all of his school performances, Mr. Randall culminates his work with students with a final performance demonstrating what has been learned. The quality of this finale is always stunning and reflects a teacher and performer who understands his students and his audience... I have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Milton to colleagues because he is a consummate professional who is clearly passionate about drumming the capacity of music to shape how people communicate."

"I discovered Milton and his ensemble through a friend of mine, and wow, am I happy I found him! I had a big outdoor party, with a Latin theme, and the music he and his band played was fantastic. It was the perfect speed for the party, the volume was not too loud but not to soft, and the song selection was just perfect throughout the whole evening. As an added touch, I asked Milton to bring drums for all my guests to use and then he guided all of us through a really fun drumming session. Everyone at the party was drumming along to Milton's hilarious instructions, and there were nothing but smiles and laughter and great drumming from everyone. My guests told me this was the best party they had attended. My party was a huge success thanks to you! Thank you Milton."

"At Aubrey Elementary, we started out our school year this September with Milton Randall's day-long drumming workshop.† What a fantastic experience!† From the minute he pulled into the parking lot with his truck and trailer full of drums, we knew we were in for something special. All of the students and staff were involved throughout the day - drums for everyone! We all worked together to create a beautiful, school-wide performance at the end of the day. Students and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and Milton expertly adjusted his teaching to suit the needs of the different age groups. We highly recommend Milton's workshop and look forward to having him back again soon."

"I just wanted to let you know that my children experienced your drumming workshop today at Carson Elementary and both of them were in awe. In particular my 9 year old son, Shawn, told me today that "..time stood still while were drumming, mom. I was working so hard that I was exhausted. It was so fun." Thank you SO very much - such a valuable experience and way for them to connect with there bodies. I might have to buy a drum set now. "
